Pastoral Week 2026 Concludes with Renewed Mission and Unity

Pastoral Week 2026, held under the theme “The Catholic Church in Mongolia: Grace and Mission” and the motto “Built Together in Christ,” concluded successfully after four days of encounter and reflection.

Representatives from all levels of the Church — including missionaries, catechists, lay faithful, and the Apostolic Prefect — participated in roundtable discussions, reflecting on the current reality of the Catholic Church in Mongolia and discerning their lived experiences in the light of faith. The gathering concluded fruitfully in a spirit of communion and shared mission.

Filled with hope, the week became a valuable time of prayer, learning, and exchange, dedicated to strengthening the Church’s mission and pastoral activities in Mongolia. During the closing session, Cardinal Giorgio Marengo asked, “What do we take home with us from this gathering?” He emphasized that coming together is not the final goal, but rather a path toward a deeper understanding of God’s call.

Through moments of prayer, silence, reflection, meditation, and mutual sharing, participants experienced a common pastoral method in practice and gained new insights to bring back to their local communities.

Cardinal Giorgio Marengo highlighted “relationship” as the key word of this year’s Pastoral Week, reminding participants of the importance of relationships among one another and with God.

He also emphasized four essential dimensions that guide the life of the Church:

  • Spiritual Dimension
The spiritual dimension is our foundation. As Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches,” we cannot live as isolated branches. God Himself is the reason we are gathered together here. Participants were reminded of the importance of both personal prayer and communal prayer within the Church, emphasizing that we are people being built together in Christ.
  • Charitable Dimension
Charitable work is the space where our relationship with Jesus becomes visible in society. Through acts of charity, we share love and make God’s boundless mercy tangible. It was emphasized that faith without charitable action remains incomplete. Participants were also encouraged to help others sincerely and without expecting anything in return.
  • Cultural Dimension
Culture is something we encounter every day. Cultural differences and cultural shock are realities we continually face. Therefore, participants were encouraged to pay greater attention to Mongolian culture and daily life through study, understanding, and deeper engagement.
  • Formational Dimension
Throughout the Pastoral Week, the importance of self-development, improving knowledge, and ongoing learning was repeatedly emphasized. Participants were encouraged to continue growing and expanding their understanding together.

Furthermore, the topics discussed during this year’s Pastoral Week will be compiled into a document and distributed to the parishes. Based on the feedback and reflections received from the communities, the document will undergo further revision. Another gathering is planned for later this year to finalize the text, which is expected to serve as a foundation for the future direction of the Church and pastoral activities in Mongolia.
