PASTORAL WEEK 2026 BEGINS

Ulaanbaatar — Mongolia The annual tradition of the Catholic Church in Mongolia, “Pastoral Week 2026,” is being held from May 6th to 9th, 2026, at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. This event is unique in that it brings together missionaries, catechists, lay faithful, and leaders of the Church under a different theme each year to provide an opportunity to learn, discern, and listen to one another.

This year’s theme is the Catholic Church in Mongolia “Grace and Mission” and Fr. Giacomo Costa, SJ, has been invited as a guest speaker to conduct the training.

Fr. Giacomo Costa, SJ He is educated in philosophy and theology and holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Paris. He is the Director of Aggiornamenti Sociali and has served as a Consultor to the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops since 2019. This is Fr. Giacomo’s second visit to Mongolia; he previously organized a training session in November 2025 on the topic of “Conversation in the Holy Spirit.”

This year’s Pastoral Week is distinguished by a collective reflection on the true identity of the Catholic Church in Mongolia—asking: What is our calling? What are our grace and mission?—while listening to and sharing with one another.

The methodology for this session is based on the Synodal approach. Before the training began, Cardinal Giorgio Marengo called on the participants, saying: “During these days, let us look at the Catholic Church in Mongolia through the eyes of faith and through the eyes of God, and reflect together,” while reminding everyone to participate in an atmosphere of prayer.

About 85–90 people are participating in this year’ s Pastoral Week.
